This September is the 3rd anniversary of Sollar Music, a project inspired by the Covid-19 situation, bringing small concerts accessible to a wide audience in Oxford. They will present a concert of 2 string quartets by Dvorak in Summertown, on Saturday 16th September. As well as the well loved “American” quartet, they contrast it with another of the many quartets Dvorak wrote, Op. 34. It doesn’t have an official name, but could be called “The Melancholic” for its more inward nature. The pieces could be portray the contrasting emotions of being isolated from one’s friends and family, and then, finding one’s freedom and happiness again.
